Hubert Sagnières is the Vice-Chairman of Essilor Luxottica, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses. 

Hubert Sagnières was born in 1955; he spent his childhood in Algeria and completed his studies in France. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a graduate of the École Centrale de Lille, with a degree in Economic Science (Lille 2). 

Hubert Sagnières joined Essilor in 1989 as Global Marketing Director. From 1991 to 1996 he was President of Essilor Canada, and went on to be appointed President of Essilor Laboratories of America and subsequently President of Essilor of America, a position he held until 2005. From 2006 to 2009 he served as Group Executive Director, first for North America and then for Europe. He became Essilor’s COO and Director and was then made CEO in 2010. Hubert was also Chairman of Essilor International until January 2020. 

Across various executive roles, Hubert Sagnières has been the driving force behind Essilor’s transformation, focusing on a single mission: to improve lives by improving sight. He is a man of action and commitment who is fighting to eliminate poor vision across the world by 2050. 

It is under Hubert Sagnières’ impetus that a dedicated Mission division was created at Essilor in 2012 to accelerate the Group’s initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of good vision, and provide access to eyeglasses for the 2.7 billion people living with uncorrected poor vision. 

In October 2018 Essilor successfully combined with Luxottica, the world leader in eyewear, to create Essilor Luxottica: a defining moment in Essilor’s history, creating a much stronger voice for vision everywhere in the world.
